VisitStarbase (“we,” “us,” or “the app”) is an unofficial companion app for visitors to Starbase, Texas and South Padre Island. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with SpaceX, the City of Starbase, Starbase Brewing, NASA, or any government agency.

Information We Collect

Account information: Email address and display name when you sign in (via Firebase Authentication).
Usage data: Basic diagnostic/crash information through Firebase Crashlytics, including app version, device/operating-system information, connection error codes and recovery timing. Connection reports do not include passwords, authentication tokens or chat messages.
Push notification tokens: Device tokens if you enable notifications.
Location data: Only when you actively use location-based features (Guide, AR, nearby sorting). We do not require continuous background location for core free features.
Launch Day Game Plan (Pro): If you set one up, the map location of where you are staying and of your viewing spot, your stay dates and how you are travelling. Hotel names and addresses stay on your device; our servers keep only the two map points and delete them automatically one day after the launch. We use them to work out drive times (Google Maps Platform) and to send the leave-by reminders in your plan. Hotel and address searches you type are sent to Google to find the place.
Lock Screen launch tracker (iPhone): If you follow a launch on your Lock Screen, a temporary update token for that tracker, kept for up to 12 hours so we can update it.
Camera and motion data: Only when you use optional AR features. AR processing happens on-device; we do not upload video for basic AR labels.
Purchase information: Subscription and entitlement status via Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. We do not receive full payment card details.
AI-related content: Questions and prompts you submit for Pro AI features are sent to our servers and to xAI to generate responses. API keys remain on our servers only.

How We Use Information

To provide and improve the app’s features (countdown, status, directories, planning tools, etc.)
To sync shared operational data for signed-in users
To send the push notifications you opt into
To manage Pro subscriptions and feature access
To operate, secure, and prevent abuse of the service

Third Parties

We use the following services:

Google Firebase (authentication, database, messaging, hosting, functions)
Google Places (business directory data, shown with required attributions)
Google Maps Platform — Routes and Places search (Game Plan drive times and place lookup)
Open-Meteo, the U.S. National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center (public weather, alerts and storm data — no personal information is sent)
xAI (Pro AI features, server-side only)
RevenueCat (subscription management)
Apple and Google (app distribution and in-app purchases)
Public data sources (including Launch Library 2 and publicly available road/beach status information)

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain account and preference data while your account remains active. You may delete your account in the app (Account → Delete account) or request deletion via our account deletion page or by emailing ryan@visit-starbase.com. Some checklist progress may be stored only on your device.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
